BUILDING PEACE, SERVING HUMANITY, TRANSFORMING GANGARE!

Today, the spirit of unity and selfless service came alive in Gangare Community as volunteers from Sentinel Oasis for Love Care Initiative (SOLCI) and Jos Town Ambassadors (JTA) joined hands with community leaders and residents for another impactful sanitation exercise and community engagement.

The day began with an inspiring address by Haroun Audu, who shared SOLCI’s vision of promoting peace, community service, and social cohesion across Plateau State. He explained the initiative to recruit volunteers from the first nine wards to ensure that community sanitation becomes a sustainable, people-driven movement.

The Ward Head of Gangare Mallam Guda Hassan warmly welcomed the team and reaffirmed his commitment to preserving peace within the community. He reflected on the once-peaceful history of Jos, identified drug abuse among young people as a major contributor to insecurity, and commended SOLCI and JTA for bringing an initiative that strengthens unity across religious and ethnic lines.

In an emotional moment, the Ward Head shared the history of his family’s arrival in Plateau State during the railway construction era and expressed heartfelt appreciation to JTA for its life-changing interventions at Famous Comprehensive School. He prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the organization and was especially delighted to reconnect with the BOT Secretary JTA Odessa M. Chuwang after many years.

The team later paid a courtesy visit to respected community leader Alhaji Ibrahim Sale Hassan, who challenged the volunteers to embrace servant leadership, reminding everyone that true service to humanity knows no religious, ethnic, or cultural boundaries.

He encouraged the young volunteers to become agents of positive change within their communities.

Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of JTA, Odessa Chuwang applauded the volunteers for their dedication and reminded them that genuine leadership begins with a heart committed to serving others.

She also appreciated Pam Toma Chuwang, the management of Famous Comprehensive School, and the community leadership for their invaluable partnership.

The Principal of Famous Comprehensive School expressed profound gratitude for JTA’s continued support, which has included scholarships for students, provision of whiteboards and classroom desks, classroom flooring, payment of teachers’ stipends, and settlement of the school’s annual rent. These interventions, he noted, have greatly improved both the learning environment and educational opportunities for the children.

Adding his voice, Salis Abdulsalam, a JTA member and Gangare Community Leade, encouraged participants to remain united and continue nurturing the friendships built through service.

His inspiring reminder captured the essence of the day:

“The greatest gift anyone can give is to leave another person happier than they met them.”

As the exercise concluded, Haroun Audu thanked all volunteers, partners, and community leaders for their unwavering commitment to building a cleaner, safer, and more peaceful Plateau State.

Together, we are proving that lasting transformation begins when ordinary people choose to serve.
