Jos Town Ambassadors Foundation (JTA) successfully carried out the presentation of learning materials, scholarships, and staff support stipends to Famous Comprehensive Secondary School, Gangare, Jos, in a colourful and inspiring ceremony that reflected the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to educational advancement and community development.
Upon arrival at the school premises, members of the Foundation were warmly received by the school management, staff, students, parents, and well-wishers. The atmosphere was one of excitement, gratitude, and anticipation as the school community gathered to welcome the JTA delegation.
The programme commenced with an opening prayer jointly led by Odessa Chuwang and Umar Abdullahi. The prayer set a positive tone for the event and reflected the values of unity, inclusiveness, and mutual respect that underpin the Foundation’s activities.
Umar Abdullahi subsequently served as the Master of Ceremonies. He welcomed guests and participants, introduced the dignitaries present, and provided a brief overview of the day’s activities. He then invited Mr. Pam Chuwang Toma to formally introduce members of the Jos Town Ambassadors Foundation.
In his remarks, Mr. Pam Chuwang Toma gave a brief introduction to the Foundation and presented the members in attendance. He highlighted JTA’s dedication to community service, educational support, youth empowerment, and humanitarian interventions, emphasizing the Foundation’s belief that education remains one of the most effective tools for societal transformation.
The programme continued with an insightful presentation by Salis Abdulsalam, who spoke on the history, vision, and impact of the Jos Town Ambassadors Foundation. He traced the organization’s origins to a longstanding friendship among individuals who grew up together in Jos and have remained united by a shared commitment to giving back to society. He noted that for over five decades, members of the Foundation have maintained strong bonds while pursuing initiatives that uplift communities and improve lives. He explained that JTA’s intervention at Famous Comprehensive Secondary School was inspired by a genuine desire to support quality education and create opportunities for students to realize their full potential.
Thereafter, Mr. Suleiman, a member of the school’s staff, welcomed the JTA delegation on behalf of the school community. Speaking in both English and Hausa to ensure that everyone present was fully engaged, he expressed appreciation for the Foundation’s interest in the school and elaborated on the significance of the various interventions being introduced. His remarks further strengthened the relationship between the Foundation and the school community.
Adding a memorable and light-hearted touch to the event, Mr. Suleiman shared an amusing encounter with two students who were surprised to see Salis Abdulsalam frequently dressed in jeans and shirts rather than the traditional kaftan they expected. Amid laughter from the audience, he explained that professional responsibilities often influence one’s style of dressing and that practical attire was sometimes necessary for the nature of his work. The story provided a moment of humour while also reinforcing the importance of appreciating diversity and avoiding stereotypes.
The event gained additional significance with the arrival of the Chairman of the Jos Town Ambassadors Foundation, Suleiman Abubakar, who was warmly welcomed by students, staff, parents, and Foundation members. His presence further energized the gathering and underscored the importance the Foundation places on educational development and youth empowerment.
The highlight of the programme was the formal presentation of learning materials, scholarships for selected students, and financial support stipends for members of staff, most of whom are volunteers. The intervention was designed to ease some of the challenges facing both learners and educators while encouraging academic excellence and improving the overall learning environment. The presentation underscored JTA’s belief that investing in education is an investment in the future of the community.
In his response, the Principal of Famous Comprehensive Secondary School delivered a heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the school. He reflected on the condition of the institution prior to JTA’s intervention and acknowledged the positive changes already underway through the Foundation’s support. He also highlighted some of the ongoing challenges confronting the school, particularly the financial strain caused by parents who are unable or unwilling to pay school fees, which affects the school’s ability to meet its operational obligations. Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism about the future and conveyed profound gratitude to JTA for standing with the school at a critical time in its development. He concluded by offering prayers for the continued growth, success, and prosperity of the Foundation and its members.
To commemorate the occasion, photographs were taken with students, staff, parents, and members of the foundation. The photographs captured moments of joy, appreciation, and renewed hope, serving as lasting reminders of a partnership dedicated to transforming lives through education.
The programme concluded with a closing prayer led by Mr. Pam Chuwang Toma, who prayed for the continued success of the students, the progress and sustainability of the school, and the enduring impact of the Jos Town Ambassadors Foundation in communities across Plateau State and beyond.
Conclusion
The event was a resounding success and further strengthened the partnership between the Jos Town Ambassadors Foundation (JTA) and Famous Comprehensive Secondary School. Beyond the presentation of learning materials, scholarships, and financial support, the programme reinforced the message that collective action, compassion, and investment in education can create meaningful and lasting change. The smiles on the students’ faces, the gratitude expressed by the staff, and the optimism shared by the school community all testified to the positive impact of the Foundation’s intervention and its commitment to building a brighter future for the next generation.
It is important to note that this intervention is the result of a remarkable international partnership between JTA and Downe House School in the United Kingdom. Upon learning about the challenges facing Famous Comprehensive Secondary School, the students of Downe House independently undertook a fundraising initiative to support JTA’s efforts. By selling specially branded JTA T-shirts and caps at a recent Cultural Day event, they demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to educational empowerment and global citizenship. The response was overwhelming, with approximately 100 T-shirts and caps sold within minutes of the commencement of the sales campaign.
The proceeds from this fundraising effort were part of the resources JTA used to support Famous Comprehensive Secondary School. This partnership serves as a powerful example of how people from different backgrounds, cultures, and continents can come together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people. The success of the intervention stands as a testament not only to JTA’s dedication to community development but also to the generosity, compassion, and solidarity demonstrated by the students and staff of Downe House School. Together, they have helped bring renewed hope and opportunity to the students and teachers of Famous Comprehensive Secondary School.
