The Story of Yeipyeng Ayuba

Yeipyeng Ayuba was once a hopeful girl with dreams of growing, learning, and thriving in her community. However, tragedy struck her life in a way that left her future uncertain.

At the tender age of 14, she was sexually assaulted, an act of violence that inflicted deep emotional wounds and left her pregnant—a harrowing experience that far too many girls in Nigeria and across Africa sadly endure.

The aftermath of such violence often brings stigma, isolation, and exclusion from both school and community support.

Her family shared details of her ordeal on social media in search of help, describing her situation as painful and heartbreaking, which captured the attention and empathy of many online.

For a young girl like Yeipyeng, bearing the physical and psychological weight of such trauma, the path forward often seems obstructed.

She was forced to abandon her education, cope with shame, and fend for herself and her unborn child with little support.

The Turning Point: JTA Steps In

Amid her hardship, a local foundation, JTown Ambassadors (JTA) from Jos, learned about Yeipyeng’s situation through one of its members Prof. Ishaya Pam.

Moved by her courage and the injustice she faced, they rallied to her side.

JTA’s involvement proved transformational—not just for Yeipyeng, but for all who followed her story online. The group didn’t merely sympathize from afar; they provided care for her until she safely delivered her child at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), covering all her bills.

Her son has since celebrated his first birthday, and she remains forever grateful to JTA for their timely intervention.

Today: A New Chapter Begins

Thanks to the efforts of JTA, Yeipyeng has been re-enrolled in school, a crucial step toward realizing her dream of becoming a nurse.

Her enrollment symbolizes hope over despair and education over exclusion.

What once seemed like a closed door has now become a new beginning for Yeipyeng.
