Fostering Unity Through Sports: Soccer Tournament Unites Lamingo and Rayfield Golf Club Caddies

In a remarkable display of sportsmanship and community spirit, Rt. Hon. Job Ayuba Izang, leader Jos North Legislative Arm successfully hosted a soccer tournament between the caddies of Lamingo Golf Club and Rayfield Golf Club.
This event, held in the heart of Jos, was more than just a game—it was a testament to the power of sports in bridging divides and fostering unity.
The tournament was co-sponsored by Senator Simon Lalong, former Governor of Plateau State, who attended as Guest of Honor and Jos Town Ambassadors Foundation (JtA).
Mr. Letep Dabang, the Political Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang also grace the occasion as well as other distinguished guests.
Traditional Chiefs of the area including the Ubandoma Ajiji Wakili,
Asiyar Itsegok Isha, Mai Angwa Yakubu Manga, Adagwom Azi Yohanna and
Mr Yohanna Y. Azi (ACCDA) added colour and also honored the occasion with their presence, adding cultural significance to an event that drew a passionate crowd of over 500 fans.
This initiative was spearheaded as a partnership between TimeOutForAfrica Foundation and JTown Ambassadors, with a vision to use sports as a tool for reconciliation and community building.
The goal is to reconnect the Berom and Jarawa communities, which historically operated as one but have faced increasing divisions due to political influences.
To sustain this momentum, we are committed to hosting two tournaments annually—one in golf and the other in soccer.
These events will serve as platforms for engagement, unity, and fostering lasting relationships among the youth and communities of Plateau State.
This tournament was not just about competition; it was about celebrating our shared heritage and reaffirming that what unites us is far greater than what divides us. We look forward to many more moments like this, where sports become the bridge to a more harmonious and united Plateau State.
